🇨🇦 The Belmont Parade of Lights has been a longstanding tradition. In view of concerns about the hazard of night-time navigationon the lake we’re going to change this to daytime event. The event will be led by Tishan Mills from the BLCA Board.
We’ve chosen the theme “Celebrate Canada”, which is timely for the July 1 weekend and reflects the patriotic fervor that’s sweeping the country. Participants can interpret this theme as they wish - celebrate the flag(s) of Canada (and the provinces), or whatever approach you can come up with. You may add sound effects if you choose - music, loon calls, horns etc.
The parade route will cover as much of the lake as possible, with a faster pace possible in the daytime. The circuit will start near the southeast corner of Big Island opposite the marina and loop around the lake (to Sawmill Bay, then to the Brewery, then return). The route will take boats closer to shore where possible so that cottagers can better see the decorated boats.
Participating boats will be judged and a grand prize winner selected. The grand prize will once again be a $50 Woody Burger Gift Certificate, donated by Richard Wood, for the boat demonstrating the most originality and spirit.
The fireworks will be set off from a barge, approximately 100 metres off-shore. Please go to the south-east part of Belmont Lake about one-half of a kilometre south of Big Island. This event is open to all and is accessible by boat only. Please ensure you are a safe distance from the barge; in past years there were issues with boats getting too close to the barge.
The BLCA strongly discourages cottagers from setting off fireworks on their own properties, as many people complain of the noise and that it scares family pets and wildlife on the lake. Please refrain from setting off fireworks on your property and instead come out to other shows happening in the community throughout the summer.
If you have any questions, concerns or suggestions regarding the BLCA's policy on fireworks, please do not hesitate to get in touch with a Board member.

The Perseid Meteor Shower is one of the most spectacular annual meteor showers visible in Ontario. It typically peaks around mid August, producing up to 100 meteors per hour under ideal conditions. The meteors originate from the Swift-Tuttle comet, and they appear as bright streaks across the sky as they burn up in Earth's atmosphere.
